In an effort to accommodate rapid growth, Rackspace repurposed an abandoned mall as their corporate headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. The client’s decision to renovate the mall for their 3,000 employees has revitalized the surrounding neighborhood and businesses in the once neglected area of town.

The interior designer’s overriding task was to create a productive and flexible space showcasing the fun and collaborative culture while addressing building challenges like wayfinding, connection to natural light, and acoustics in a large space.

Throughout the main mall circulation, or “Main Street,” small conference cubes float throughout. Perpendicular to Main Street are major groupings of support rooms, “support bars,” such as conference, mechanical, printing, and restrooms, that are painted vivid red to organize the space and aid in wayfinding.
