A planned downtown project that will reuse existing structures and be anchored in part by a new brewery is set to include several new restaurants as well.
Hixon Properties, which is spearheading the project just off Broadway in San Antonio’s River North neighborhood, plans to include a new Make Ready Market food hall as part of the larger urban makeover. The new culinary destination, set to open in spring 2023, will include Order up, an American food concept based in San Antonio serving burgers, fries, shakes, and cookies. It will also be home to Chilaquil & El Diente de Oro, a local Mexican street-food concept.
Tiny Pies, an Austin-based shop that bakes sweet and savory pies, will also have a spot at Make Ready, along with Four Brothers, a Venezuelan food concept focused on empanadas, arepas and other Latin American fare. In addition, chef Zach Garza plans to open a new beer and wine bar at Make Ready.
They will bring a diverse and unique culinary experience for Make Ready Market guests of all ages,” said Hunter Kingman, Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for Hixon Properties. “These additions to the food hall will complement the inaugural tenants, Mila Coffee and Idle Beer Hall and Brewery,” said Hunter Kingman, vice president of acquisitions and development for Hixon Properties.
The Make Ready site is tucked between the 1700 block of Broadway and the San Antonio River. It will include the reimagination of two historic buildings surrounded by expansive courtyards. Its name is a reinterpretation of the building which will house the food hall, originally part of a Cavender Cadillac dealership.
I first reported in April Hixon’s plans to remake the area near a Broadway corridor undergoing dramatic change. Los Angeles-based Pouring with Heart, which owns craft beer and spirits businesses in Texas, California and Colorado, confirmed in July its plan to begin construction of Pouring with Heart Brewery and bar in September on a site just near Broadway along Brooklyn Avenue.
We hope to create a gathering place that unites folks through fresh-made beer and cocktails, and we are eager to connect with the neighborhood,” said Peter Stanislaus, who oversees development for Pouring with Heart.
Hixon has not disclosed a price tag for the Make Ready development.
