The Texas Mutual Insurance Company headquarters prioritizes employee wellness while fostering collaboration and connection. Consolidating 600 employees from two previous offices, the space supports a multi-generational workforce and attracts like-minded talent.
Located in Austin’s Mueller development—Studio8’s seventh project in the area—the headquarters benefits from the neighborhood’s amenities, including long views of downtown, Branch Park’s greenery, walkable attractions, and hike-and-bike trails. As a catalyst for the growing Mueller Town Center, the building contributes to a vibrant mixed-use district.
Designed in collaboration with Texas Mutual, a platinum-level Austin Green Business Leader, the project integrates sustainable principles. Features like EV charging stations, public transit access, and pedestrian-friendly design align with the community’s LEED ND rating and commitment to health and sustainability.
Anchored by a daycare and Kerbey Lane Café, the ground level also benefits from nearby Mueller attractions, including coffee shops, restaurants, a children’s museum, Mueller Lake Park, and Alamo Drafthouse.
A translucent-paneled staircase and central atrium, inspired by the company’s 1980s-era hub of the company’s former home, feature open pathways forming a 1.2-mile indoor walking loop to encourage movement, interaction, and impromptu meetings.
Expansive views and a double-height moss wall are balanced by small touches like decorative planters, creating moments of delight and encouraging visitors and occupants to slow down.
Sloped ceilings and ample daylight align with circadian rhythms, while an interior color gradient—from blues to greens, reds, and oranges—mimics natural light transitions, enhances wayfinding, and connects occupants to the environment.
A rooftop terrace under the big Texas sky takes advantage of the views to the distant city skyline.
A ground-level courtyard with a backlit, channeled glass breezeway links to the street, blending broad vistas with intimate, human-scaled spaces.
