Meridian Charter School
Meridian School is a community where students, parents, and staff collaborate in an atmosphere of mutual respect and appreciation. The school fosters enthusiasm, curiosity, and intellectual challenge through an inquiry-based curriculum. The multi-phased project transformed a series of disparate existing buildings, including commercial office space and a former Target store, into a comprehensive K-12 charter school campus.
This transformation unified the previously fragmented structures into a cohesive, connected environment serving over 1,700 students. The new campus design not only streamlined operations but also created a vibrant, collaborative space that enhances both learning and community engagement. The transformation included a black box theater, gymnasium with locker rooms, multiple libraries and cafeterias, science labs, makers space and exterior amenities.
The secondary school’s building’s overall width and deep bay depth posed challenges for accessing natural light and daylighting views. The design team addressed these issues by strategically incorporating skylights and converting existing storefront windows into glass roll-up doors.

The skylights are particularly impactful in the heart of the building—the library—where, combined with an open communicating stair, they allow light to filter through the center of the structure.
