Alfred Williams & Company
Studio8 partnered with Alfred Williams—a leader in workplace strategy, placemaking, and office furnishings—to convert a former BMX repair shop into a distinctive showroom located just off Lamar Boulevard in Austin, Texas.
This transformation project was driven by Alfred Williams’ vision of creating a space that not only showcases their furniture but also serves as a dynamic social hub for frequent events. Key design elements included maximizing daylight and integrating indoor/outdoor spaces to enhance functionality and ambiance. The result is a vibrant, versatile space that perfectly aligns with the client’s dual objectives of showcasing products and fostering community engagement.
With exposed brick walls and a wood truss ceiling, the single-story section adds charm. Complying with the client’s vision, the space serves as a furniture showcase and a social hub for frequent events, prioritizing daylight and seamless indoor/outdoor transitions.

After
Skylights, including circular Solatubes in the one-story open office and larger ones in the two-story space, illuminate the interior, while the removal of a significant portion of the second floor created a spacious multi-function area for events.
Overcoming the challenge of different floor levels, the design team incorporated ramps and a jump stair to connect both structures.
The industrial aesthetic, featuring exposed steel and garage-type doors opening to an outdoor patio, preserves the building’s character.
