Jessie Andrews Park Restroom
Ocho, a 20-foot octopus sculpture perched upon the Jessie Andrews Park Restroom draws inspiration from classic horror films of the 1950s and 1960s, blending a menacing creature with Jules Verne fantasy.
Crafted locally from hand-bent steel, laser-cut sheet metal, and painted foam, its LED-lit eyes bring it to life with an undersea presence. Set within a park featuring an event lawn, playscape, picnic grove, food truck station, and a 300 s.f. restroom, Ocho’s tentacles frame the restroom entrance and extend into the landscape. As a nod to the nearby Austin Film Society, the sculpture serves as a striking focal point linking cinema and public art in the Mueller Development.
Coordinating between the artist, fabricator, and landscape architect, was a rewarding challenge, ensuring the sculpture met the artist’s vision and integrated seamlessly into the architecture and landscape.
