San Saba River Nature Park offers a unique blend of recreation, history, and natural beauty in the heart of Texas.
The park will feature a paved trail system connecting to Risien Park, with interpretive areas showcasing the site’s history and natural features. Improvements include entry monuments, parking areas, restrooms, picnic spaces, scenic overlooks to Mill Creek, two pedestrian bridges made from reclaimed rail cars, a wildlife observation structure, and a paved fishing area along the San Saba River.
The 40-acre property, divided by the historic Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad, includes a mature pecan orchard, early Native American artifacts, and remnants of historic structures. Sustainable design elements like native landscaping, recycled and regional materials, and habitat protection, ensuring the park is both environmentally friendly and welcoming to the public year-round.
