Prairie View A&M – Agriculture & Business Multipurpose Building
Prairie View A&M University, the second-oldest public institution of higher education in Texas, showcases its commitment to innovation with the state-of-the-art Agriculture and Business Multipurpose Building. This L-shaped, four-story facility serves the Departments of Agriculture and Human Sciences and the College of Business, designed not only for academic excellence but also as a pivotal recruiting tool.
It features a high-tech trading room with a visible stock ticker, a 400-seat auditorium, a student lounge, agriculture teaching laboratories, meeting rooms, and campus-wide wireless access. The goal was to bring synergy between research, teaching and ultimately learning. The design relates to the cultural history of the campus, while projecting a forward thinking image in a state-of-the-art facility.
The design team worked to bring the Agriculture and Business colleges together by instilling unifying elements, while still maintaining each college’s identity. Traditional Prairie View A&M colors mixed with a fresh palette of complementary hues were used as wayfinding to identify the multi-levels and the two schools.
Special attention was paid in creating “in between” spaces for students or faculty to find areas to duck away and concentrate or have a spontaneous study group.
