On September 10th, Studio8 participated in the Good Design Challenge 2025, hosted by Alfred Williams & Company and MillerKnoll. Our team came together and took home the People’s Choice Award! It was a fun evening spent with fellow designers.

The design challenge was centered around the Eames House Bird — an iconic piece that was the trademark of legendary American designers Charles and Ray Eames. Each team was tasked with designing and building a habitat for the Eames House Bird that embodied creativity, craftsmanship, and good design principles.

Meet Dottie – At first glance, she may seem stoic and serious, but her quirky trinket collection tells a different story. Dottie is an avid collector, with a passion for beads, crystals, jewelry, precious metals, fabrics, and knick-knacks from around the globe. She thrives on the thrill of the hunt, often flying off to faraway places in pursuit of her next hidden treasure.

As the mother of two rowdy little chicks, Dottie needed a place to land – a space to store her many precious oddities. A master of elegant efficiency, she transformed her home from a cluttered trove into a thoughtfully curated nest. This nest, a gallery of curiosities, reflects her travels, diverse interests, and boundless curiosity about the world. It’s also a creative refuge for her chicks.

Dottie is an inherent maximalist, doing her best to keep her modern Appalachian A-frame as minimalist as possible – but at heart, she’s a collector after all…

Kudos to our incredible team for securing the People’s Choice Award! Even better, 100% of proceeds went to The Other Ones Foundation, a local organization that is on a mission to invite our unhoused neighbors into an engaged community.

Congratulations to our wonderful team of designers: Lee Ann McClanahan, Jamie Sanchez Martinez, Julie Petri, Natalie Stenman, Aubrey Millis, Megan Rangel, Jordan Carson, Anya Batalova, Tejal Bhagwat, and Jane Ann Anderson
