Westlake Dermatology
Studio8 Architects partnered with Westlake Dermatology to expand an existing clinic into an adjacent 4,000 SF warm shell space, enhancing efficiency and patient experience.
The expansion added nine patient rooms, an upgraded staff break room, and a centralized nurses’ station wrapped in a slat wood screen for privacy and warmth. Studio8 also reimagined the waiting area to create a more welcoming arrival experience, seamlessly integrating new and existing spaces with a refined, modern aesthetic.
Positioned just behind the curtainwall, the illuminated signage and slat wood feature wall act as a beacon for the expansion, creating a strong visual presence day and night.
Designed for moments between care, this secondary waiting space offers a quiet, comfortable retreat with layered materials and curated displays that soften the clinical experience.
The nurses’ station is reimagined as a warm, architectural centerpiece—its curved form and vertical slats creating a sense of enclosure without sacrificing light or visibility
Function meets craftsmanship at the nurses’ station, where hidden storage is seamlessly integrated behind tambour wood panels to support daily operations without visual clutter.
A continuous tambour wood surface wraps the curved central volume, carrying through to custom door frames and millwork to create a cohesive and sculptural expression.
Natural materials—oak millwork, wood flooring, and soapstone surfaces—soften the clinical environment, bringing warmth and texture into the exam room experience.
